The Vineyard

Soils

"Château Haut Canteloup" owns two vineyards (a total of 44 acres) 15km distant from each other.
The wines take advantage out of two different soils which gives them their marked characters.
- Close to "Four", we own 26 acres of red vine. Established on argil-limestone soil, these wines are famous for their richness and maturity: Fruity - concentrated and elegant.
Grape varieties:
Merlot 70%
Cabernet Sauvignon 25 %
Cabernet Franc 5%

- Close to "Saint Palate de Blaye" is located our second small vineyard of 18 ha. Exposed for the majority to the South on a silica-gravelly soil, the sauvignon grown in this vineyard is combining power and complexity.
Grape varieties:
Sauvignon Blanc 80%
Sauvignon Gris 10%
Muscadelle 10%

Best practices

Our objective is to obtain a ripe and healthy grape.
The vines are planted with densities ranging between 4500 and 6000 feet per acre.
For more than 10 years, we have grown grass on one row out of two.
This technique makes it possible to control the strength of the vine plant and to obtain better a maturity.
We practice environmentally friendly agriculture.
We harvest when the grapes are mature: A ripe grape will transform into wines we like.
Harvest is mechanical; our machine is equipped with a bay screening machine. The grapes are forwarded directly to the ?mobile plate?. We then proceed to manual selective sorting.
